The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, granted, motu proprio, thirty-six honors to the Merit of the Italian Republic to citizens who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, by their solidarity commitment, in volunteering, by the activity in favor. social inclusion, in international cooperation, in the promotion of culture, legality and the right to health. The only Turin awarded
Among the 36 honorees is 24-year-old Giovannella Porzio of Turin. Suffering from the rare Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease that forced her to sit in a wheelchair since she was 10 years old, she is Italian and European vice champion of Paralympic dance. Always in love with dance, after high school she was able to fulfill her passion thanks to the “ Ballo Anch’io ” Association in Turin where she practices wheelchair dance. It is part of the Performer Group, which is the most advanced, made up of both people in wheelchairs and standing dancers. They offer shows and performances in theaters and events throughout Italy and participate in the championships of the Federation of Sports Dance.
The dream
Her dream is to found a dance school and become an inclusive dance teacher. “With dance,” he explains, “it is possible to demonstrate how simple and concrete inclusion and collaboration can be between different realities, where difference and disability are not an impediment but rather become an artistic tool.” He is a witness of the Association and Telethon of the Mitofusina 2 Onlus Project.
