There are 36 citizens that one more year the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, wanted to award with the Honor of Merit of the Italian Republic. Everyday heroes, distinguished for their daily commitment to solidarity, volunteering, for activity in favor of social inclusion, in international cooperation, in promoting culture, legality and the right to health.

The stories
Among the winners we find Chiara Amirante, founder of the ‘Nuevos Horizontes’ Community, committed to the recovery of drug addicts. Domiziana Avanzini founded in Trieste in 1979 one of the first hospital volunteer associations in Italy, which still provides assistance to patients. Also in the field of health, Nazzarena Barboni develops her activity, which deals with the ‘Raffaello Onlus’ association of children hospitalized in Pediatric Oncohematology. Elisabetta Iannelli is Secretary General of the Italian Federation of Voluntary Oncology Associations. Mattia Villardita is the founder of ‘Supereroiincorsia’, a group of young people committed to volunteering in pediatric wards.
Ciro Corona, forty years from Scampia, is the founder and president of the association (R) Anticamorra Existence. Vittoria Ferdinandi is the director of the restaurant ‘Numero Zero’ in Perugia, which employs a group of boys and girls (equivalent to 50% of the staff) suffering from mental disorders. Sara Longhi and Alfonso Marrazzo give life to the café ‘Sin nombre’, a bar that has the function of making deaf people interact with their hearing. The deaf serve customers. Don Tarcisio Moreschi and Fausta Pina, both 73, work in Africa, where they lead a village for 100 orphaned children, some of whom are HIV-positive. Valeria Parrini, a journalist, is the wife of Ruggero Toffolutti’s father, a worker who died on the job in 1998 at the age of 30 in a steel mill.
Valeria is the founder and honorary president of the National Association for Occupational Safety. Michela Piccioni, 35, lost her job, after having denounced to the CGIL all the irregularities found in a call center, with workers being exploited for a very small fee. Serena Piccolo, 18, graduated 100/100, despite bone marrow aplasia, which forced her to undergo a transplant. Enrico Pieri, 86, saw his parents, two sisters, grandparents, uncles and cousins die at the hands of the Nazis in Sant’Anna di Stazzema. Rachele Spolaor, 25, saved the life of a 35-year-old Romanian by throwing herself on the platforms of Mestre station on December 10. Cinzia Grassi was coordinator of the Observatory for the fight against child abuse and pornography.
