An earthquake of magnitude 2.6 checked in at 9:09 this morning at Flegrea area. The seismic event, detected by the Operations Room of the Vesuvian Observatory / INGV, was located with an epicenter 5 km from Pozzuoli, at a depth of 2 km.
The shock was clearly felt by the population of the Phlegrean municipalities and also in some districts of the city of Naples.
The Vesuvius Observatory: “Activities of Campi Flegrei constantly monitored”
“The volcanic activity of the Campi Flegrei is constantly monitored by the monitoring networks of the Vesuvian Observatory, according to the Department of Civil Protection. The geophysical and geochemical parameters analyzed indicate the persistence of the trends recorded in the previous months. At present, no elements are highlighted that suggest significant short-term evolutions of the system, understanding that any variation in the monitored parameters (seismological, geochemical and soil deformations) can lead to a different evolution of the threat scenarios “. Thus, the director of the Vesuvian Observatory / Ingv, Francesca White.
The note from the Pozzuoli City Council
After the seismic event this morning, the municipal administration of Pozzuoli invites citizens not to “go near the Pisciarelli fluid emission zone due to the danger of high temperature mud emissions”. The earthquake “could have been perceived as a roar – says a note from the Municipality – by the inhabitants of the area near the epicenter.”
The population is reminded that “since 2012 the National Department of Protection has raised the level of volcanic alert of the Campi Flegrei from green (basic) to yellow (attention). The increase in the alert level has implied strengthening scientific and attivite monitoring ‘ planning and prevention “. In consideration of this, the municipal administration together with the civil protection of the Municipality of Pozzuoli is committed to “guaranteeing the population a constant update on the evolution of the bradysismic phenomenon in progress in order to face any possible critical situation”.
