The story also sparked outrage because the man dressed as Santa Claus had come to the facility at a time when, in reality, regular visits by relatives of the elderly are prohibited. The volunteer ended up in the crosshairs of a campaign of intimidation and online threats so intense that the Municipality of Mol issued a note asking the population to leave him alone. “The Council is clear on this: harassment, in any form, cannot and should not occur,” the note reads, describing the man as “very agitated” by the situation.
