In some areas of Germany, vaccination against COVID-19 it was suspended for fear that the “cold chain” has not been guaranteed. As is known, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the only one authorized in the European Union to date, must be stored at very low temperatures: it must be stored at minus 70 degrees, while Pfizer uses special containers during transport and the product can remain at a temperature between 2 and 8 degrees for no more than five days.
Vaccine, AstraZeneca Oxford: “Our 95% effective, 100% eliminates severe symptoms”
What happened
Problems arose in six districts of Upper Franconia and vaccination was blocked. An official statement from the local authorities explains: “During the reading of the temperature recorders, which were locked in the cold rooms acquired centrally, doubts arose about the respect of the cold chain by the vaccine.” The same thing happened, according to reports from the Suddeutsche Zeitung site in the Augusta district. “The integrated cooling log shows that the temperature recorded during transportation was initially three degrees Celsius and subsequently minus one degree,” said Martin Sailer (CSU), Augusta District Administrator.
Later, however, it was reported that in this district the problem was solved, but these episodes show the difficulty of the distribution of this type of vaccine. Bild’s headline is highly controversial: “After the vaccine cooling problems in Bavaria, will the 1,000 doses now end?” So far in Italy there have been no problems of this type.
