Vax Day takes place on Sunday, December 27: as requested by Europe, it represents the symbolic date for the start of anti-Covid vaccinations.
The first 9,750 doses of the drug arrived in Italy on Christmas Day: the government’s plan is for them to be administered, starting December 27, to RSA health workers, staff and guests.
The arrival of the first vaccines
The vaccine vials arrived at the Spallanzani hospital in Rome after being manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer in Belgium: they were placed in cold rooms capable of maintaining a temperature of -75 degrees.
Some of them were loaded in thermal containers on board Army vehicles and delivered to all administration points within 300 kilometers of Rome, while doses destined for the most distant regions were delivered from the military airport of Pratica di Mare with five aircraft in the rest of Italy.
Arcuri: the light after a long night
“We see the first ray of light after a long night,” said Emergency Commissioner Domenico Arcuri, speaking of a “symbolic and exciting” day.
And again: “We are convinced that citizens will understand the importance of this moment,” said the commissioner again, hoping that the vast majority of Italians will choose to be vaccinated.
Who will the first vials go to
Lombardy, the region most affected by the pandemic, receives the highest number and this is also a symbol over a day that will be the same for all of Europe: it had 1,620 doses divided into 324 vials. Immediately afterwards is Emilia Romagna, who has received 975 doses, Lazio (955), Piedmont (910) and Veneto (875), the region that has more difficulties in this second phase.
955 operators involved in Lazio – “Sunday V-day. It starts from the Spallanzani institute.
In Lazio 955 health workers participate, 280 in the provinces, 560 in Rome, 115 between the Uscar and Ares mobile units ”. The local health authorities and hospitals will leave within the next two days.
The categories of beneficiaries
The categories that will have the opportunity to receive the vaccine on a priority basis include doctors, nurses and all health professionals. At the same time, RSA employees and guests will be vaccinated.
Then when massive amounts of doses arrive (in spring), it will depend on the other categories.
And given that the guaranteed arrival, at the moment, is “only” 470 thousand weekly doses, it goes without saying that it will take a few months before moving on to the other categories. Among other things, it should be remembered that teachers are among those who will be vaccinated second, but always with priority.
When to the teachers, Ata and principals?
In the ministerial document of December 12 we read that “With the increase in vaccine doses, other categories of populations will begin to be vaccinated, including those belonging to essential services, such as teachers and school personnel, police, prison and community personnel, and so on.. ”.
As we have already written, most teachers could be vaccinated from July to September, with an advance from April and May, but only for fragile teachers.
However, not all teachers seem convinced to get vaccinated: according to a recent survey by the School Technique, which was attended by 2,600 readers, mainly teachers, around 40% said they have no intention of getting vaccinated.
