Don Pietro Cesena, 62, parish priest of Borgotrebbia (part of the city) is admitted to the hospital in Piacenza. During the Christmas mass he jokingly urged the faithful to mass and to eat and drink a lot of wine “because teetotalers do not enter heaven.” in a video that immediately went viral.
The priest felt ill during the night between Friday and Saturday and was admitted to the pulmonology department of the Piacenza hospital for observation. He was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia and tested positive for coronavirus even though his condition does not appear serious.
“Today I invite you to eat well and drink a lot, but not Coca-Cola! Good wine, because wine is a sign of eternal life. In heaven my abstemious brothers will not be able to enter, because they drink wine ”, says Don Pietro in the video of the Christmas homily, interrupted by thunderous applause from the faithful present. Don Cesena is a very popular priest in Piacenza and has already made headlines when he paid a fine of 400 euros last April for having said Mass with the faithful present at a time when it was prohibited.
