The disturbed phase that began with this Christmas that has just ended, would continue with few interruptions throughout the next week, in some phases even with strong bad weather, also associated with sustained winds mainly from the west or south. The predominant circulatory component would be of the Atlantic matrix, therefore West / Northwest currents at mid-altitudes, while the associated thermal image is not announced particularly cold, due to the western component, but it would not be mild either, in fact, the temperatures would remain more well sparkling in values more or less typical of the period. The end of the year, therefore, marked by a generalized instability in much of Italy and does not seem to go better for New Year’s Eve and the first of the same year. In fact, according to the latest updates, only by Friday, January 1, another relatively cold wave cable from the North Atlantic should pass, capable of causing unstable weather, sometimes even disturbed in most of the peninsula and, once moreover, with sufficient thermal conditions for snowfall, particularly in the northern regions, down to low altitudes or on the plains; snow on high hills or middle mountains in the Apennines.
Going into more detail, but always taking into account that there is still about a week left before the phase that we are going to examine, so surely there could be more than a few variations, in principle the clouds and rains would progressively conquer great part of Italy since the morning. New Years Eve, starting from the north-central regions, and then moving towards the Tyrrhenian and locally insular ones. Probably more on the margins of instability would continue to be the lower-middle Adriatic, various areas of Calabria, the Ionian and part of Sicily, especially east-central. As can be seen in the image that accompanies the article, the most intense clouds and rains, marked by the darker color, would affect the whole north a little and also a large part of the center, excluding here East Abruzzo, the south of the Brands. and East Molise.
In the lilac colored areas, the rains could also be heavy, on average moderate in the blue ones, irregular in the lighter blues. Of course, the snowfalls also stand out, which would once again spread over much of the territory. In the north, in the sectors delimited by the white line, the snow would fall again at low altitude or on the plains, then more snow in the metropolitan cities of Lombardy and Piedmont, with possible accumulations once again quite significant. Snowfall along the south-central Apennines, from Tuscany to Campania, Lucania, around 500/800 m in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, on average between 1000 and 1200 m in the rest of the south-central Apennines. Moderate or strong western ventilation should be noted. The MeteoWeb editorial staff will continue to monitor the evolution of the weather for the New Year, making daily updates.
