The interview with President Conte a Door to door of the December 23th gives us plenty of food for thought: the issues addressed by the Prime Minister, from back to school to the possibility of a lockdown in january, but here we want to focus on ME and why the government is still deciding whether to access European funds for health.
There are several parties in favor of Italy’s appeal to the MES: Go Italy in opposition, Italy Long Live me Democratic party In most. And Renzi even put the use of MES as necessary condition to continue supporting the Conte government, convinced that the veto both must be attributed to the 5 Star Movement.
The Prime Minister, however, denies and explains why his government has preferred to date don’t take a clear position on the ESM shifting focus to Parliament. On the other hand, voting on the ESM is the prerogative of the Chambers and that is why – also given the sensitivity of the issue – Giuseppe Conte does not intend to go too far in this regard.
Some doubtHowever, the Prime Minister has it and pointed it out during the interview with Door to door.
MES Sanitario: why Giuseppe Conte has doubts about it
The green light for the reform of the MES did not clear the doubts that Giuseppe Conte has about this instrument. 36 billion to be allocated to health – to relaunch a sector increasingly affected by cuts review of expenses – would very useful for Italy, especially considering the lack of restrictions for those who access it.
In detail, the Prime Minister stated that since it is a loan in any case, the health MONTH would lead us to accumulate deficits“That would fall on a public debt that is already enough”consistent”.
Therefore, providing an additional expense for health care would mean “leave a significant burden for future generations“Obviously, 36,000 million euros would be very useful to invest in public health, for which the pandemic has highlighted all the limits of the system, but if you look at our financial situation, you understand the reasons why you can’t leave debt out of control for future generations.
Health: how much money with the Recovery Fund?
According to Conte, therefore, the Recovery Fund could be the only solution to relaunch Italy in the post-pandemic. And when it is pointed out that with the Recovery Fund the Health chapter is dedicated only 9 billion euros, the Premier responds saying that:
In the meetings that we held yesterday and the day before yesterday with the majority forces, we have already discussed the credits that are in the draft of the Health Recovery Plan. It has been said that 9 billion are few, but I invited everyone to consider that when we make these calculations we must bear in mind that many projects are transversal. We are already talking about more than 15 billion starting.
Despite this, the Prime Minister did not rule out the possibility that the investments in health can also be strengthened. But not MES, unless Parliament decides otherwise.
