Pompeii continues to amaze the world and does it even on this vacation. In the archaeological area, and more precisely in the area of Regio V, archaeologists have managed to unearth new treasures that include a completely intact thermopoly.
The excavations, resumed on the occasion of the maintenance and restoration project of the area, have allowed a thermopoly to emerge from the ground, that is, a place with street view where hot food and drinks were sold. A place, in short, very similar to today’s street food: a successful trend anticipated almost two thousand years ago by the Romans.
The thermopoly, also shown on the social channels of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, is perfectly preserved. Just think that, in the front in contact with the public, you can see accurately. the image of a sea nymph, the Nereid, mounted on a hippocampus along with other animals, such as dogs and roosters, with brilliant and extremely bright colors, painted in other parts of the precious bank.
A sensational discovery not only for the degree of conservation, but also because they have been inside I found clay pots with some food of the time it included kid, snails, a dish similar to the “paella” with fish and meat and wine corrected with beans, placed on the large counter decorated in an “L” shape and ready to be served to the diners.
The structure, as we already said, is located in Regio V, in front of a very busy square on the corner between the Vicolo dei Balconi and the Casa delle Nozze d’Argento, and had already been identified in 2019. It was precisely then, due to the beauty of the paintings found, that it was decided to expand the project and complete the Excavo with the hope to find other artifacts and domus.
Now the work on the construction site continues and certainly this new discovery (after the discovery of the two men who fled a short time ago) will allow us to reconstruct the day of the eruption with even more precision, as well as to understand customs and even eating habits. Researchers at the Archaeological Park, in fact, are already analyzing the material to understand when it could affect the investigations carried out so far.
