Even on Christmas Day, under Milan’s gloomy skies, hundreds of people lined up to eat at the Onlus Pane Quotidiano. The images of the endless queues in recent days, however, have moved something. Or rather: someone. Yes, because today, December 25, the mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, in addition to spending the morning delivering packages with food, has become a kind of postman for Santa Claus.
“I bring gifts that are not mine,” said the Milanese mayor immediately. “A person I know, who owns a company, donated 1,500 panettones, while a former businessman, with his foundation, gave me a check payable to 100,000 euro that I have in my pocket for Pane Quotidiano, because he saw what happens on TV and reached into his wallet ». And that is how Mayor Sala delivered the closed check in a letter to the founders of the non-profit organization. “It is not something that happens every day,” the operators of the non-profit organization responded in amazement.
For the rest, the morning in Viale Toscana was almost identical to those of many other days, although today a small panettone was also delivered and, for the little ones, a special station was set up with a series of toys. Because if the bread on the table should never be lacking for anyone, not even a small opening to dream, at least one day a year, it should always be there, especially for the little ones.
