At around 6.30 a.m. local time, a caravan exploded, damaging the surrounding buildings and slightly injuring three people. The FBI investigates the explosion
The FBI, along with the Federal Arms and Explosives Agency and police, are investigating this morning’s explosion in Nashville, spokesman Joel Siskovic said. President Donald Trump “has been informed” of the situation, the White House said through spokesman Judd Deere. Trump, who is on vacation in Florida, will continue to receive regular updates.
Police have posted an image of the caravan racing through the city streets hours before the blast online, asking anyone with information to contact authorities. The vehicle would have been parked at the scene of the explosion shortly before two in the morning. The bomb alert audio message allowed officers, who rushed to the scene after reporting a shooting, to secure the area and avoid a more serious toll.
According to the reconstruction of local police spokesman Don Aaron, reported by The Guardian, it was a parked caravan that exploded. Police responded to a call for an alleged shooting just before 6 a.m. but found no immediate signs of a shooting. Agents spotted a suspicious vehicle and called the bomb squad. While they were waiting, the vehicle exploded. Teams of dogs have intervened in the area, Aaron said, but “no signs have been found” of the presence of bombs.
