Another long line of people found themselves outside Viale Toscana, the headquarters of Pane Quotidiano onlus, to receive a hot meal on Christmas Day. It had already happened in the last few days. But the clash between the Christmas atmosphere and the difficulties of having food on the table on the 25th is even more evident and painful for many families. The association has been offering help to those in need for years.

“Today I am Santa Claus but I bring gifts that are not mine. A person I know, who has a company, donated 1,500 panettones and a former businessman, with his foundation gave me a check for 100,000 euros that I have in my pocket for Pane Quotidiano because he saw what was happening on TV and put his hand to the wallet ”. This was stated by the mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, today among the volunteers of Pane Quotidiano in Milan.

The benefactor businessman is Carlo Crocco, founder in 1980 of Hublot, a luxury watch brand. The Swiss-born company is now owned by Louis Vuitton and has a turnover of around € 200 million a year. Crocco first contacted the mayor to make the donation after seeing the long line outside and in the cold. “It is a special Christmas for all: it is obvious – added the mayor – that we must get used to a need that will be even more evident at least in an initial phase, even after the pandemic.”

“The lines outside are long – said Sala – but the comforting thing is that the lines inside of the people who crowd are just as long. We should be proud to belong to a city that faces need with such solidarity because so many of us are still busy. “
