From today Italy is the red zone

From today December 24, Christmas Eve, Italy is a “red zone”: that is, it enters those days with the most restrictive measures among those decided by the government with the decree law of December 18, which in any case allows, thanks with some exceptions, a certain freedom of movement. However, less than the national days of the “orange zone”, which will be the first three of next week and then the following Monday. The restrictions and rules to contain coronavirus infections during the Christmas and New Year holidays will be valid from December 24 to January 6, and are the result of an overlap of DPCM and decree laws, which has caused widespread confusion.

The main difference between the days in which Italy is in the red zone and those in which it is in the orange zone is that in the first case all movements are prohibited, both within and outside the municipality itself. Except for work, health or necessity, and except for those justified by the “visitation exemption”, to go to another home, respecting certain limits. In all these cases, self-certification is required. On the orange days, on the other hand, he can move freely within his municipality.

The “visitation exemption” states that you can travel once a day, from 5 to 22, to visit only one house (of anyone, friends or family) that must be in your region. This exemption applies to both red and orange days. On this journey there may be a maximum of two, possibly accompanied by minors under 14, disabled or not self-sufficient without restriction of number.

Even on red days, the general rules remain in place like the 10 a.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, which on New Year’s morning runs until 7 a.m. You cannot move between regions, except for reasons of work, health, necessity, but you can always, therefore, also between regions, return to your residence, home or home. The latter is considered the place where you live “with a certain continuity and stability”: therefore, people who usually live in the same house can get together.

Going to the stores is a valid justification for moving: those that sell food and basic necessities, supermarkets, pharmacies and parapharmacies, kiosks, tobacconists, laundries, barbers and hairdressers will remain open.

It is also allowed to always go to second homes if they are in the region itself, but only to a family unit, and only from 5 to 22. You can always do sports and physical activity, individually, outdoors and respecting distances. Masses will be celebrated. The bars and restaurants are closed to consumption in the place, but they can carry out take-away food service, always allowed until 10:00 p.m., while home deliveries have no time limit.
