Messina’s Guardia di Finanza discovered 25 people who had been receiving citizenship income illegally for more than a year, as 14 of them had been convicted of mafia crimes in the last ten years and the other 11 belonged to the same families .
The persons in question have cheated the National Institute of Social Security (INPS) for about 330 thousand euros and the investigating judge has signed, at the request of the prosecution, a lien against them for an equivalent sum.
According to the requirements indicated by the government, people who request income for citizenship cannot be subjected to precautionary measures or have had final sentences in the last 10 years for certain types of crimes, including mafia-type association, terrorism, kidnapping, exchange political electoral-mafia, massacre and aggravated fraud to obtain public funds.
