More than 20 bosses definitively convicted by the mafia or their families illegally pocketed the income of the citizens. This was discovered by the soldiers of the Yellow Flames of the Messina Economic Police Unit who denounced 25 people and seized the 330 thousand euros in total improperly collected by the suspects. The seizure decree was issued by the investigating judge of the city of the Strait, who accepted the request of the prosecutor led by the prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia.
The investigated mafia is part of the most important clans of Messina and its province such as Santapaola-Romeo, Sparacio, Spartà, Galli, Batanesi-Bontempo Scavo, De Luca, Mangialupi, Camaro, Tortoriciani, Ventura, Ferrante and Cintorino. Citizenship income is recognized to households that, at the time of application and throughout the duration of the benefit, are in possession of the citizenship, residence and stay, income and property requirements provided by law and have been convicted in the last decade, with a final sentence, for mafia crimes. The mobsters who ended up in the sights of the Treasury have instead denounced convictions for extortion, usury, drug trafficking, exchange of votes, mistreatment and organization of unauthorized animal contests.
