A violent explosion occurred on the afternoon of December 21 around 14 in Casalbordino, in the province of Chieti but a few kilometers from Molise, in a factory called ‘Sabino Expllodenti’.
According to initial information, three people died while denying the presence of the wounded. Firefighters and bomb squads, as well as the police at the scene. The three people who died came from three towns in the province of Chieti: Guilmi, Pollutri and Casalbordino.
The ‘Sabino Explodenti’ is a company located in the district of Termine, in Casalbordino, with almost 50 years of experience, and specializes in the recovery of explosives from ammunition, bombs, rockets and mines that are demilitarized to later recover the material for be reused in civil field.
There were disruptions on State Road 16, the main artery connecting Molise, an alternative to the A14 motorway. In fact, the SS 16 was temporarily closed to traffic between the Caterina valley in the municipality of Torino di Sangro and Lido di Casalbordino, and the nearby gas station was also evacuated. The police and the carabinieri with special controls have forced those who are passing on that section of the road to divert.
Rail traffic on the Pescara-Foggia line was also blocked from around 3:30 today, given the ongoing intervention of 115 on a section between Vasto and Fossacesia.
