Doctor Mario Avano, a surgeon practicing in Barra, a district in eastern Naples, is another doctor infected and killed by Covid. Born in 1954, he had turned 66 in February. He was well known in the neighborhood, where he had earned not only the esteem but also the affection of the many patients, the same ones who in these hours have entrusted messages of remembrance and condolences to social networks. Throughout Italy, since March, the Sars-Cov-2 virus has infected almost 30 thousand health professionals; among them, more than 260 doctors have died.

Avano worked as a family doctor, specialized in endocrinology. He passed away last weekend. He had tested positive at the end of October, he had probably contracted the virus at work, in contact with the many patients who, until he fell ill, continued to follow him without sparing. After a month of hospitalization, he returned home at the end of November. Son, Gennaro AvanoThe physiotherapist had updated his health status on December 16 with a post on Facebook: the swab had finally been negative, but the disease had left him with severe symptoms.

After the numerous messages of condolences, it was again the son Gennaro who thanked the words of affection, with another post. “In my name, my mother and my sister,” he wrote, “I thank everyone who has had a thought for our father. Dad would be happy to know that all his commitment, dedication, passion with which he carried out his profession has reached each of you. If they felt like family, it was because Dad really considered his patients like a second family, always trying to find the solution to everything. Thank you for your words, you made us even more proud and happy for that who was and will always be our father to us ”.
