CASALBORDINO – Tragic explosion in the early afternoon at the Esplodenti Sabino plant in the Termini district of Casalbordino, in the province of Chieti, a drama that killed three workers. Esplodenti Sabino, which, among other things, recovers gunpowder from bombs recovered in recovery operations carried out by bomb squads, has around 70 employees and has relationships throughout Italy.
The three victims, who were from Casalbordino, Pollutri and Guilmi, were 45, 46 and 54 years old, and were found not far from each other, in one of the company’s casemates. When the alarm was raised, the rescuers and the 118 with the helicopter left Pescara and immediately arrived at the scene. The Fire Department made the area safe and only afterwards could health personnel intervene. To ensure that there were no missing persons, the service employees were detained and counted.

According to a first reconstruction of health sources, there would be no injuries but many ambulances have already arrived from the Lanciano, Vasto and Ortona hospitals, in addition to the Pescara rescue helicopter. A large nearby service station was also evacuated from which many trucks operating in the nearby industrial zone were discharged.
Due to the risk of further explosions, the Adriatic railway stops between Fossacesia and the port of Vasto. State road 16 “Adriatica” is closed between Valle Caterina, in the municipality of Torino di Sangro (km 497), and Lido di Casalbordino (km 504). As a result of the closure, which was necessary as a precautionary measure, traffic is temporarily diverted to the neighboring network. Anas staff and police are on site to regulate the highway network and reopen the state highway to traffic as soon as traffic safety is restored.

The following year it was the turn of the Tagliacozzo (L’Aquila) tragedy when the Paolelli company exploded in July 2014, instantly killing 3 people. With today’s tragedy at the Casalbordino Exploding factory, the tragic estimate of victims in Abruzzo from 1992 to today stands at 21.
