MONTEBELLUNA – It was 1932 when Luigi and Brigida, Renzo Battistel’s grandparents who came from Alpago, opened the Osteria da Livio in via Bongioanni, at the crossroads between take 20 and the Dorsale. In two days (next December 23, ed) Cecilia Guizzo, Renzo’s wife who accompanied him on his trip, after almost 90 years will close the doors of the business that has become the Osteria al Cavallo, with an unmistakable image that presented on the facade. The health crisis and the obligation to close the club at 6 in the afternoon had pushed the owners to be suspended as of January 1. The latest ordinance forced the time to be shortened even more. And Wednesday will be the last day. “I will offer something to whoever passes by here – says Cecilia – However, we do not have parties to avoid meetings. Covid gave us the push to suspend the activity – says Cecilia – In fact, it really put us in difficulties. I am retired and my children do not intend to continue. However, the closure is not final. Let’s see how it will be in the first months of 2021 and then we will make a final decision.
I DUBBI
Saying goodbye to a lifetime’s work and what is above all a passion is not easy. As it is not easy to forget the many faces that have passed through that place. And they became friendly faces. After all, the historic tavern, which has always been run by women, has become the point of reference for those who came to the hill for various reasons, from cyclists to mushroom hunters, passing by those who simply wanted to take a walk . «With the closing at 6 in the afternoon – continues Cecilia – we lose the clients who leave work and who used to come by us. After all, we work mainly from that time. Obviously the closure is a shame, especially since so many people we have met in recent years have become dear to us.
LOST
Cecilia and Renzo are very attached to that place. With the closure of the tavern, Montello loses a historical place, which over the years has also hosted many recreational activities, from skeet shooting to a small motocross track. In the past, in addition, the Giro del Ton, which was divided into 11 stages, started from the Osteria to the Cavallo. Each one served a different snack, from breakfast (with coffee in the pignatta and marsala with biscuits in the tavern), to the afternoon snack. Activities destined to remain in the great book of memories.
