Today’s main news:

  • In the last seven days, 119,230 cases of coronavirus infection have been registered in Italy, that is, 97 percent of those of the previous week. After three consecutive weeks of a downward curve, cases have now stabilized at lower levels than two months ago in the second half of October. Here we have explained in detail all the data from the last week.
  • The Council of Ministers will meet on Friday at 6 pm and should approve new rules for the containment of the coronavirus infection during the Christmas holidays.
  • During his usual weekly live Facebook on the coronavirus emergency, Campania President Vincenzo De Luca said that in his region, beyond the rules that will be provided at the national level, “there will be no mobility for municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants” . De Luca said he will sign an order in the next few hours.
  • On December 17, Health Minister Roberto Speranza wrote on Twitter that “December 27 will be a good day for Italy and for Europe,” setting the start of coronavirus vaccinations for that date. Here we have explained in detail when vaccinations will begin, who will get the vaccine first, which regions will have the most doses, and where to get vaccinated.
  • On Friday, in relation to a meeting of Fnomceo, the National Federation of Medical Orders and Dentists, Minister Speranza himself said that “the impact on the population of the anti-COVID vaccination will be seen at the end of spring. This means that we will still have to live with the virus for a significant time with the only real weapon we have, which is non-pharmacological measures ”, that is, physical distancing and the use of a mask. Until “between 10 and 15 million people are vaccinated, the immune effect will continue to be residual,” Speranza continued, “and therefore for several weeks we will have to maintain an important level of care.”
