Reopen schools on January 7 or postpone them? The question, in the magnum sea of information, ideas, opinions of the last days, seems legitimate. On the other hand, the Minister of Education, Lucía Azzolina, does not seem to have doubts that she would have a plan ready to reopen the doors of the high school immediately after the Epiphany.

There are three axes in which the government’s work to return to the classroom is concentrated: transportation, schedules, preferential lane for school skates. How to do this in about two weeks with the holiday season in between?

Transport -It is perhaps the most difficult knot to solve and the most highlighted by experts, directors, unions. The Ministry of Transport, according to La Stampa’s advance, would have ready 65 million euros already distributed among the Regions. The objective is to increase the number of races, especially in large centers, to allow a greater distribution of students who go to school, reaching a capacity of 50% of the vehicles. The resources would be divided as follows: 10 million for Lazio, 8 for Emilia Romagna, 7 for Lombardy, Sicily and Campania. Just in Campania more than 200 new buses arrived yesterday, which, according to Governor De Luca, will also be used for the boys’ return to class.

Differentiated times – Prefects at work. It is supposed to open three time slots for the entrances: 8, 9 and 10. The objective in this case is also linked to the need to lighten public transport.

Quick pads – Minister Azzolina is pushing for the school to have a preferential lane for quick swabs. The Regions will decide whether to accept a preferred lane. What does that mean? If ASL received more applications, schools would have priority. Quick swabs would help educational institutions track positive cases among Ata students, teachers, and staff.

And then there is the fear of infection resurgence during the holiday period. “It will be a different Christmas but we must be even more responsible: we have a duty as a country to reopen secondary schools”, is the invitation of Minister Azzolina.
