The photos of New York under the snow, finally

[ad_1]

The first snow of the year has arrived in New York: almost 17 centimeters fell on Thursday alone, more than the 12 fallen in the entire 2019-2020 winter season, the National Weather Service reported. Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote on Twitter that “for years, we had not faced such a challenge.”

The snow, in fact, brought with it the usual drawbacks: schools have been closed, there have been traffic problems, accidents on the roads, hundreds of flights have been canceled, trains have been suspended and many roads have been closed, further complicating travel during the holidays. One of the most important problems concerns the difficult conditions of the homeless. Many associations that watch over their rights have asked the municipality to assign them free hotel rooms, largely empty due to the coronavirus. Others try to persuade homeless people to spend the night in shelters set up for them, but several avoid them for fear of being mugged or contracting the coronavirus.

The rest of us, safe and thousands of miles away, are left with only the usual magnificent images of the snowy city, which make us think of Christmas movies and the nostalgia of not even being able to imagine being there, at least this year.
