“Like Del Piero”. Raise your hands if you weren’t thinking about it yesterday afternoon when Andrea Agnelli addressed Dybala with words as proud as they were severe. There are actually many similarities to the story that between 2011 and 2012 saw cold exchanges between Alex and the president.

But there are also many differences. The first stands out: Dybala is not Del Piero. Not yet, at least, because he doesn’t have his membership, he didn’t win the same things, he didn’t do the same things for Juventus that Del Piero did. And the negotiation is different: a future as captain and a symbol of Juventus is at stake, not the closing in glory of a triumphant career. The core of Agnelli’s words, if you listen carefully, is not the contract and it is not the money, but the field. Dybala is not yet an absolute champion, it is the project. To become one, you don’t need a new contract, but phenomenal new performances. In this case, reversing the order of the factors does not add up.
