(ANSA) – BERLIN, DEC 15 – Germany is pressuring the European Union authorities to speed up the approval process of the Pfizer-BioNTech anti-Covid-19 vaccine, which several countries, including Great Britain, the United States and Canada, are already starting to use. Chancellor Angela Merkel and the German Health Ministry are calling on the EMA and EU leaders for the vaccine to be approved before December 23 and not before December 29 as currently planned, according to reports from the daily Bild, citing sources close to the German government. The information confirms the signs of impatience already sent on Sunday by German Health Minister Jens Spahn. “All BioNTech data is available, the UK and US have already given their approval. Data review and EMA approval should occur as soon as possible,” he said, adding that “confidence in the ability to do so depends on the action of the European Union ”.
