Mayor Falcomatà: “Sad day for the city. Castorina will be suspended”

Below is the note issued by the mayor of Reggio, Giuseppe Falcomatá

I thank the Public Ministry of Reggio Calabria, the Police Headquarters and the investigating bodies for the investigation carried out on some specific circumstances that occurred during the first round of the last administrative elections in Reggio.

The investigation carried out, as specified by the Prosecutor himself, focuses on individual facts and circumstances that, according to what was learned from the statements of the investigators, would affect some seats, and in no case would they refer to the administrative structure of the elections.

Facts that must be completely gutted and verified for the sake of justice and to protect democratically elected institutions and especially the thousands of citizens who have freely cast their vote.

It is a sad day for the city. Personally, I am very saddened by this matter, which should not in any way distract the city council, the board and the entire administration from the rehabilitation and growth objectives that the citizens deserve and that they asked of us with the vote. If the circumstances described were determined, it would be a very serious matter also at an ethical and judicial level.

I have full confidence in the judiciary and the investigative bodies and I hope that we can shed all the light on this matter as soon as possible. It is not a circumstantial sentence, I really believe that the work promoted by the Prosecutor’s Office is for the protection of all, and I hope that the people involved, starting with Councilor Castorina, will be able to demonstrate their strangeness regarding the controversial accusations, but in the meantime . it is clear that he will be immediately suspended by the Council and will have to drop all other charges ”.
