On the afternoon and evening of Saturday, December 12, several thousand people participated in demonstrations in various cities in the United States in solidarity with US President Donald Trump, claiming without evidence that Joe Biden’s electoral victory in the presidential elections of December 3 November was a robbery against the outgoing president. In Washington, DC, there were some clashes between members of the far-right pro-Trump group “Proud Boys” and some protesters from the “Antifa” movements.

Some 200 members of the “Proud Boys” had joined one of the pro-Trump rallies organized in the capital: many were wearing combat gear and bulletproof vests. Towards afternoon they dispersed along some side streets with respect to the main one of the procession, colliding with the “Antifa. Other protests have seen violent moments in Olympia, Washington state, where one person was reportedly shot and at least three arrested in clashes between pro and anti Trump groups.

The demonstrations were organized after the Supreme Court’s decision to reject an appeal, filed by Texas, which if confirmed could have subverted the outcome of the presidential election. The request was rejected because it lacked the legal basis to be discussed and evaluated by the court judges. Later, Trump posted numerous tweets calling the rejection “a disappointment” and went on to argue, without providing concrete evidence, that he had won the election.
