The body found shortly before summer on a beach in San Ferdinando, in the province of Reggio Calabria, belonged to Vito Lo Iacono, the commander of the fishing boat who had sunk in the waters of San Vito Lo Capo. The confirmation came at the end of the examination carried out by comparing a DNA sample taken from the body found along the Calabrian coast and that of the young fisherman’s relatives.
The result of the examination was communicated by the Public Ministry of Palermo after the investigations carried out at the disposal of the Public Ministry of Palmi by professors Francesco Introna, Pietro Tarzia and Alessia Leggio. “The body found on June 11, 2020 belonged alive to Vito Lo Iacono, born in Partinico on February 2, 1994 and disappeared at sea on May 13, 2020,” writes the deputy prosecutor of Palermo Vincenzo Amico.

Some doubts had already arisen after the discovery of that corpse in which the investigators had noticed two tattoos – a rudder and a horse – compatible with those of the young Vito. At first, the investigators had hypothesized that it could be a young man from the province of Vibo Valentia, victim of a white shotgun in 2018.
Results for one also came in mid-November. report according to which there would be no collision traces between the Vulcanello tanker and the fishing vessel with Matteo, Giuseppe and Vito Lo Iacono on board. The bodies of the first two were identified in the days after the sinking of the New Isis, while the body of the 26-year-old appeared to have disappeared into thin air.
It must be said, however, as it emerged this summer, that the Vulcanello would have been repainted when the investigation had already been opened, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Ennio Petrigni, with the aim of determining whether there were responsibilities on the part of the tanker in the sinking of Fishing boat.
According to the indictment, the representative of the Vulcanello shipping company, Augusta Due srl, Raffaele Brullo, allegedly ordered a “repainting of the dead work of the hull”, which is the part that is above the waterline to “artificially change the state of the places”. For this reason the prosecutors raise the hypothesis against him of the crimes of judicial fraud and complicity.
