Tomorrow, December 9, 2020, the students of Basilicata’s primary and secondary schools will return to class.
This was decided by President Bardi, who, based on the health data collected by the regional task force, decided not to issue any additional orders to extend school closures. Thus also in Lucania from tomorrow the dpcm of the Conte government will be fully active, which in fact provides for the presence in the classroom of students from 6 to 10 and 11 to 13 years old.
In fact, the regional health structures have announced that the contagion trends of the school population aged 6 to 13 have significantly reversed the course, reducing, compared to the registered peak, by 81.17% for the secondary school of first grade and 55.71% for primary. Compared with the framework that was defined on November 17, a notable improvement is observed in the epidemiological trend that has also occurred thanks to the PDD adopted based on the previous ordinance issued by the President of the Region.
The school population screening campaign, which was extended to all components of the school world, confirms the monitoring data carried out by the regional working group.
To date, nearly 11,000 rapid genetic tests have been carried out, mainly concentrated in the provincial capitals of Potenza and Matera and in some of the main Lucanian centers.
Therefore, in light of the data that emerged, and the strengthening of the follow-up, President Bardi considered it appropriate to return to face-to-face teaching. It is clear, however, that since we are still in the midst of a pandemic it is necessary for everyone to scrupulously respect the anti-covid protocols. In particular, absolutely avoid meetings in front of school buildings. Furthermore, it should be remembered that mayors are in the conditions – where they deem it – to be able to use the funds made available by the region to implement school transportation. All this in order not to cancel the sacrifices to which Lucan’s students and families have been subjected so far. Only scrupulous adherence to these rules can help us fight Covid. It is understood that the Region will continue to monitor the epidemiological curve on a daily basis and implement all the necessary measures to protect the health of the Lucanos.
