A serious domestic accident occurred last Sunday in Ferentino. A local elderly woman, almost ninety years old, who unfortunately risks her life, was burned.
The incident occurred in the San Rocco Montecchie district, a few kilometers from the city center.
The old woman, perhaps alone at that moment in that room of the house, was arranging the wood in the fireplace, but she must have lost her balance and ended up in the flames of the hearth. Obviously, the woman’s cries of pain were heard by some of the relatives who attended and in consideration of the severity of the burns, she immediately asked 118 for help.
On the sidelines of the call, the 118 operators, nurses and a doctor, arrived in San Rocco, aboard an ambulance and self-medicated, in code red.
The poor woman engulfed in fire, suffered second and third degree burns on 60-70% of her body, therefore quite serious.
After the first treatments of the toilets, the doctor of Ares 118, given the seriousness of the state of health of the person concerned, requested the help of the rescue helicopter. The patient required urgent hospitalization in a specialized hospital.
The Pegaso 44 air ambulance landed at the Moscardini airport, where the other rescue vehicles also arrived with the burn victim on board. Before leaving for the capital, the unfortunate woman was intubated and sedated, after which Pegasus left for Rome, where the woman was transported and hospitalized in serious condition in “Sant’Eugenio”, a hospital specializing in severe burns.
As anticipated, the situation is dire. The old woman is in a pharmacological coma and the prognosis is reserved, it is hoped that the doctors can save her life. The importance of the clinical picture is confirmed both by the severe and extensive burns reported in a large part of the body and by particularly advanced age.
