The average age of Covid victims in Italy is always 80 years old, having risen to 85 in the summer (the first week of July = and then down again. Sicily, in terms of mortality, it is among the worst regions in this second phase of the epidemic, with a mortality rate which has clearly increased since the first wave.
The National Institute of Health warns this in its periodic report on the characteristics of deceased patients. Almost all, 97%, with at least one previous pathology: globally, according to the ISS, 180 patients (3.1% of the sample) had 0 pathologies, 712 (12.4%) had one pathology, 1060 (18.5 %)) 2 pathologies and 3774 (65.9%) had 3 or more pathologies.
In total, 4 out of 10 deaths (39.9%) occurred in Lombardy, but the different territorial distribution in this second wave has changed the proportions: from March to May in Lombardy there were 47.6% of deaths, almost half of the total, to drop to 32.3% in the June-September period and to 27% between October and December.
Piedmont is also below the overall figure, which had 11.9% deaths in the first phase, and then fell to 9.2% in the summer and 6.7% in the second wave. In contrast, the south-central regions have seen an increase in their contribution to the total of victims: Lazio went from 2.4% in the first wave to 7.9% in the second, Tuscany from 3% to 6.4. Sicily was worse, going from 0.9% to 6.2% of the totaland Campania, from 1.4% to 8.3%.
