Beppe Sala will rename himself mayor of Milan

Milan Mayor Beppe Sala, elected with the center-left in 2016, has announced that he will run again for the position of mayor in the municipal elections scheduled for spring 2021. Sala himself announced this in a video posted on his social accounts.

The decision was made after a reflection that lasted several months, as the Chamber himself recognized: since last spring he had described himself as very tired and insecure to run again, despite the good consent data on his mandate. The coronavirus pandemic had increased their doubts, and brought to light in some parts of the Milanese center-left the hypothesis that in such a phase a different mayor might be needed.

In the video, Sala said he had thought about the re-nomination for a long time because he “wanted to be absolutely sure that he had the physical and mental energy” heading into the second term. “I am not applying to complete the job,” added Sala, “but to begin a new stage: which will be difficult, exhausting, but I am convinced that it will make Milan once again a city of inspiration for our country, for Europe and for the world. I’m ready. “

The center-right has not yet announced the candidate who will oppose Sala, despite having promised to do so after the end of the summer: it is not even clear if he has been identified or if the parties involved have decided to wait for the formalization of the new Room nomination. It had been on the air for a couple of weeks.
