A beautiful Christmas story, even with Santa Claus himself played by none other than Diego Abatantuono. The movie “10 days with Santa Claus” by Alessandro Genovesi tells the story of Giulia (Valentina Lodovini), a mother of a family, who is on the run for a promotion that would lead her to move to Sweden.

Since the job interview is scheduled for Christmas Eve in Stockholm, her husband Carlo (Fabio De Luigi) recovers the old motorhome and, with the whole family, goes to Northern Europe, to spend Christmas together with passion. But on the way, in the middle of Swedish Lapland, they run into Santa Claus. An unprecedented Santa Claus, “He is not shown as usual, he is a fairy tale character”, as the director himself explained “With his wonderful disguise, evidently very human, including strengths and weaknesses”.

Many of the scenes in the film were actually shot not in Sweden, but in Italy, and more precisely in South tyrol. In addition, this region has fairytale views and boundless landscapes, as are also found in Lapland.

The places where “10 days with Santa Claus” takes place take place between San Candido, Dobbiaco, Bressanone, Brunico, the legendary Braies lake and Sesto. Val Pusteria, where these towns are located, with the exception of Bressanone which is located in the Isarco valley, is one of the most beautiful and varied valleys in South Tyrol, with its immense meadows that in winter are covered with snow and allow to give long walks in the middle of nowhere (like in Lapland).

Nature is particularly rich in this area known more as Alta Pusteria. In the Fanes-Senes-Braies natural park and in the Sesto Dolomites there are natural monuments such as Lake Braies, the pearl of the Dolomites, one of the most visited places in Italy and one of the most installed themes in the world. And it is precisely here where some outdoor scenes of the film were set, as well as in a church overlooking the lake with emerald green waters.

But Alta Pusteria is also home to Lake Dobbiaco, another popular excursion destination. This less visited lake in Braies is no less beautiful in terms of beauty, surrounded by forests and with a beautiful campsite with Skyview Chalet to admire the stars, like those found in Lapland.

In winter, the mountains of the Sesto Dolomites attract the attention and fascinate the visitor, a wonderful setting for the Sesto Dolomites ski carousel.

Among the open-air locations of South Tyrol, alongside evocative landscapes and snowy forests, the film’s production was also shot in the Monguelfo Castle (or Welsperg), also in Val Pusteria, an ancient fortress that looks more like a cathedral than a castle and dominates the valley from above. This fortress is already mentioned in historical documents from the year 1167.
