Covid vaccines, from authorizations to the latest tests: next steps
“The government has accepted the recommendation of the Kingdom’s pharmaceutical regulator, the MHRA, to approve the use of the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech,” a statement from the Health Ministry read. “The vaccine will be available across the UK from next week” and priority will be given to older people in nursing homes and medical staff.
40 million doses already ordered
The MHRA said the vaccine offers up to 95% protection against the virus and is safe for mass vaccinations. The UK has already ordered 40 million doses, enough to vaccinate 20 million people, with two injections each, the BBC reports. About 10 million doses should be available soon and the first will arrive in the country in the next few days.
