Five recognized descendants and six who “claim” recognition. And a millionaire legacy that is difficult to rebuild. Diego’s succession is a novel
The emotional turmoil caused by the death of Diego Maradona will fade, difficult to predict the same scenario around succession-related issues. The battle between inheritance and fatherhood promises to be long and probably bloody.
Recognized children
–
Let’s start with the children. Maradona officially has 5, but according to different sources there are at least 6 others seeking official recognition. Dalma was born in April 1987, three years after Gianinna. The two daughters he had with Claudia Villafañe. Actually, Diego’s eldest son is the homonymous son, born in Villa Literno in 1986 from the relationship with Cristiana Sinagra and declared by the Court as Maradona’s son in 1993 (but recognized by his father only in 2007). Jana was born in 1995 to Valeria Sabalain, then a waitress at an Italian restaurant in Argentina. She was only recognized in 2008, but this year she spent a lot of time with her father. Diego Fernando was born in 2013, the son of a relationship with Verónica Ojeda. He too has gone a long time without seeing his father.
Exhumation and DNA
–
Then there are the others. Those that Diego never recognized but who had already started the recognition procedures with Maradona in life. The best known case is that of Santiago Lara, a silver young man born in 2001. His mother was named Natalia Garat, she was a model and died of cancer at the age of 23. The boy discovered by chance, reading the newspapers, that he could be the son of Maradona and not of Marcelo Lara, the father with whom he lived. The lawyer who looks after his interests these days has made it known, appearing on two television programs in Argentina, that he had requested the exhumation of Maradona’s body to obtain a DNA test to compare with that of his client. Also in Argentina is Magalì Gil, a 24-year-old girl. Magalì was abandoned and adopted, but in 2019 her biological mother revealed that her father was Maradona, which she had not even told her supposed father.
To Cuba
–
Maradona spent several years on the Caribbean island, between 2000 and 2005, and here we are also talking about several children. According to some newspapers that collect the statements of Maradona’s lawyer, Matías Morla, there are 4 boys who could make a paternity request. They are twins, Joana and LKu, who had with Adonay Fruto. And then Javielito and Harold, two other boys who claim Maradonian paternity of which not much else is known. The four boys are between 19 and 21 years old.
Confusion about assets
–
Acting as a connecting feature to all these stories are the stormy endings with the different partners, and this obviously does not facilitate the situation in terms of inheritance. Maradona’s patrimony is difficult to quantify: today in Marca, taking up the reconstructions carried out in these days in Argentina, they talk about various assets for a total of 75 million dollars, but the figure seems to be going to the highest point. In Argentina there is talk of 65 million declared but of assets that could reach ten times that figure. There are at least five houses and several cars in Argentina, but little is known about the belongings they left in Dubai, including two luxury cars and expensive gifts received while living there. As in Argentina, there are exotic presents received in Belarus, including an amphibious car and a high-value ring. At the time of his death, Diego was still under contract with the Argentine club Gimnasia y Esgrima and with sponsors Puma, Konami and E / A Sports. And there are soccer schools in China, a hotel in Cuba, activities in Venezuela and Italy. It will not be easy for the probate court to put together the many scattered pieces of the economic puzzle that Diego Maradona created.
