Covid and traveling abroad: the rules, from the passport to the vaccination certificate

Passport, visa and certificate proving having had the coronavirus vaccine: in what near future will we have to travel like this? With the contagion curve still very high, although in decline, and the forecast of 2021 that at least until the summer will still force us to adhere to strict rules, there are those who prepare and leave early. To go to Australia, for example, you may also need a health identity document in addition to the real one. In recent days, the CEO of Qantas, the country’s main airline, and the Health Minister of the Canberra government spoke about it. Not everyone agreed with the idea, but it is easy to imagine that something similar will be requested almost everywhere in the world.

Covid, anti-blockade Sweden admits: “Herd immunity failed, we are in the middle of a pandemic”

Maldives, the anti-Covid formula: “Pay and stay as long as you want.” The first flights of 2021 were sold out

At the moment, Italy is sailing on sight and plans to impose a quarantine for those returning from abroad, or at least for those who are organizing a holiday in the snow. Skiing and crowded slopes are the topic of the moment and should be considered off-limits for Palazzo Chigi. Attempts are being made to solve the problem at the European level, but not all countries agree to “lock” cable cars and mountain huts, starting with Austria, which continues to insist on not wanting to close.

Christmas and New Years are also warm seas and dream islands. And while you think about whether you can move between regions to reach an elderly parent, there are those who look further and imagine the late December holidays in Dubai, the Seychelles, the Maldives – the most popular places of the moment.

The current rules for Europe

The rules are those established for last summer, when European countries reopened their internal borders and restored free movement in the Schengen area. However, border management is the responsibility of each government. In short, Italian citizens can move freely in Europe for tourism, except in Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo. In Romania, however, travel is allowed but, upon returning to Italy, there is an obligation of fiduciary isolation and health surveillance. Our European “neighbors” have also set their own rules. And for this reason the Italians who usually go to France, Germany and Spain, will have to respect various conditions. France, as of October 30 and until December 1, 2020, is still blocked. The borders remain open within the European area, while the external borders are closed, except for the repatriation of French citizens. Germany has banned overnight stays for tourism since November 2 and at least until today. The German Ministry of Health has ordered mandatory health checks for all those who have stayed in one of the areas considered “at risk” in the 14 days prior to entering Germany. The list includes all of Italy (with the exception of Calabria, which is actually now the red zone). Spain reopened its borders last June, but Italians, as well as other European citizens, must fill out a “public health form” before traveling through the Spain Travel Health website or the Spain Travel app. Health. SPTH, obtaining a QR code to be presented (on mobile or printed device) upon arrival. And as of November 23, it is also mandatory to present a certificate proving having undergone a swab in the previous 72 hours, naturally with a negative result.

Thinking about a vacation, in this period, in the end it could also be advantageous. Because there are many initiatives that are being put in place to counter the crisis: affordable travel, places with few people and more flexible refund policies on hotels and flights. The important thing is to know that the situation is constantly changing and that at any moment, until it returns to normal, the trip could still be skipped.
