Guido Nicolò Longo, 67 years old, from Catania, appointed tonight by the Council of Ministers commissioner ad acta for the Calabrian health re-entry plan, has a long career, first as a policeman and then as a prefect. His last task was to Prefect of Vibo Valentia, which he kept until May 30, 2018, the day of his retirement.

But previously he had been quaestor of Reggio Calabria, Caserta and Palermo. He achieved brilliant results as a Commissar of Caserta, dealing particularly significant blows to the “Casalesi” clan.
It was Longo, as commissioner of Caserta, who coordinated the investigations that led to the arrest of the Casalesi fugitives Antonio Iovine, Michele Zagaria and, above all, the absolute head of the clan, Francesco Schiavone, known as “Sandokan”. Then the promotion to Prefect and his appointment to Vibo Valentia, where he remained for two years.
Longo graduated in law and entered the career of Public Security Officer in 1978. In 1979 he won the “Luigi Calabresi” award for best student at the Higher Police School. It was in Palermo that the 92 massacres broke out, first in the Flying Squad, then as deputy head of the Dia center, then in Naples, in Rome in the central service, in Caserta after the Castelvolturno massacre, then again in Reggio and Palermo.
