From the Palazzo Zanca the live broadcast of Mayor Cateno De Luca for the new actions to be implemented for commercial establishments and social gatherings
LIVE
Schools are closed from Monday for a week throughout the city of Messina. Starting tomorrow, the ordinance introduces a curfew at 7 p.m. and a ban on collective parking on public land and in squares.
After an exciting new day of discussions about the Covid emergency, Mayor De Luca is ready to sign a new ordinance for the city of Messina. The first citizen met with the trade associations to decide on the actions relating to the trade establishments. Then, two hours of debate with the city council to discuss the content of the ordinance.
Curfew at 7 pm
We believe that it is essential to take measures that put us in a position to enforce the prohibitions currently in force. We cannot suffer the biggest setback that occurred after the closure of Capo Peloro, with picnics in the hills of Sarrizzo. And since the Covid does not know urban centers or squares and does not know schedules, as some institutional idiot writes, I take responsibility for the measures that give law enforcement the possibility of sanctioning “u babbiu” that has been registered in recent days. Now stop.
Curfew required. We have three thousand men to get through the checkpoints. So it is better to limit our outings for a certain time. All shops must close at 19, with a 30-minute tolerance. We believe that it is not a great sacrifice. The virus does not appear at 7pm, but we can do more checks on who is around. From a certain moment you are at home. We need to restore order and sobriety. After 7.30 pm, everyone is home. There will be the introduction of specific motives that will allow the movements. There will be no limitations for home deliveries, but takeout will only be allowed until 7pm with a 30 minute tolerance. It is an indispensable closure. There will be no distinction between business activities. Continuous hours will be allowed.
Baboon ban
There is an absolute ban on babies. All the gatherings that we have registered in the different squares will no longer be there. It cannot be placed on the streets or on public land. It is not possible to be in a group, nor to meet. And for this measure there are no schedules. It is obvious that if they are in line in front of a store or bank there is no prohibition.
The ordinance comes into force tomorrow and is valid from Monday to Saturday, on Sunday President Musumeci took care of it and closed everything.
Schools in Messina
De Luca raises the tone of the confrontation with the ASP on the school issue. “Meanwhile, I close schools for a week. On Tuesday we will have a meeting with the Asp and the managers. I can no longer bear the incompetence. Sandwich, low frequency, virus that runs due to delays in the communications of positives. THEMeanwhile throughout Monday the schools closed for a week. We have acquired elements that tell us that the school, in the absence of a response from the ASP in the required time, becomes a place for the virus to spread. The data we have tells us that many contagion situations could have been avoided. For students with disabilities it must be guaranteed by the presence at school.
The number of infections
De Luca sets the stage for an increase in infections. The last week of October we had 531 positives in Messina and its province, with a daily average of 76 new infections. In Sicily there were 5,956, with a daily average of 850 new positives per day. Nationally, the figure was 183,553 positive with 26,222 daily infections. What is happening now? In the first week of November, we went from 531 to 700 positives, with a daily average that went from 76 to 102 new infections. From November 9 to 15, another 1,108 positives with a daily average of 158 per day. From November 16 through yesterday, the average number of new infections per day is 221, with a forecast of 1,544 infections at the end of the week. A trend in constant growth, only in the last week we have grown 33%, in the region the growth was 17%, while in the national context there is a drop of -6%. We were a city that did not have a worrying epidemiological trend, the measures planned a month ago were also disproportionate for Messina, but in almost a month we have burned this positive figure. This means that we have not been able to maintain the advantage we had in the last week of October.
The beds in Messina and its province
Today we have had a new conversation with the representatives of the hospital structures to take stock of the available beds. On October 30 in Messina and its province there were only 12 activated intensive care beds. Last Friday we had 20 places in the Polyclinic, today they have become 24, of which 17 are occupied. Another 14 are expected in the coming days. In Papardo on October 30 there were no intensive care places. A week ago they had activated 7, meanwhile there are 12 places available, of which 6 are occupied. In the Barcelona hospital there are 2 activated intensive care beds, in the Taormina hospital they give us 4. In total today we have 42 intensive care beds for Messina and its province, but I have no rival for those in Barcelona and Taormina. The employees are 23. These are the numbers we must trust.
As for the ordinary hospitalization of Covid, to date the places available for Messina and its province are 212, of which 138 are occupied. 15 new places are planned in the Polyclinic and another 15 in Papardo.
