it’s time to take serious action against the government – time

Francesco Storace

In a normal country, if the prime minister is wrong, he goes home. In Italy, however, Giuseppe Conte is much better. To try to get out of the Calabrian storm, the admission of guilt is invented, which costs nothing. We call the newspapers friends, in fact they are said to have telephoned and even wrote it when instead it was just a tissue from Palazzo Chigi, and they pretend to wash their conscience in this way. “My fault, but the ministers knew it too.” Go to subsequent appointments without paying fees. In a word, a joke backed by so-called great information.

Then, again in that normal country, the content of the agreement touted between Civil Protection and Emergency of Gino Strada would immediately become transparent and public. There are no known methods, times, or costs. We only know, in a very general way, that “it is about activity in field hospitals and Covid Hotels and hospital triages”. That’s it? After setting fire and flames to grab Gino and his brothers, will they finally have to limit themselves to healthcare and hotel activities? It really does seem like a joke, after making the government dance for a week with the usual pentastellati penultimatum.

At this point, the greatest curiosity to satisfy is what the prime minister will be able to say to the mayors of Calabria today. Many of them will come to Rome, most of them will be stationed under Palazzo Chigi, while a delegation will go up to the noble floor to be greeted by Conte. Will the prime minister say “my fault, but also the fault of the ministers”, even the mayors? Will he find a new Calabrian health commissioner hired who knows how? This time it will be the turn of Federico D’Andrea, a Calabrian coach who emigrated to Milan, went from the Guardia di Finanza to Sogesi and Olivetti? Who knows if at least he has already spoken to us to avoid another fool.

Or, and it would be much better, will you announce to the mayors that you intend to finally open a serious table with the Calabria region to decide together what happens to the protection of health in a troubled land? Yes, the region, which has so far witnessed innocent government contortions. By the way: that the center-right be heard with its leaders. Statements are no longer enough.

Concrete, visible and decisive action is necessary so that the population of Calabria feels represented also at the parliamentary level. So far only good TV appearances; But there is also the need for sensational actions. A central government that tramples the region deserves adequate responses. Calabria has given wide support to the center-right in the regions where poor Jole Santelli was elected. We don’t want him to pay for that too. And we don’t want the center-right to risk forgetting it. If the government does not respect Calabria, the center-right must demand it. Even at the cost of discouraging Minister Speranza, for example.
