The two cases in Palermo and Vittoria, in the Ragusa area. They were both 58 years old.

PALERMO – “I recommend everyone to have respect for those who protect their health.” These are the words of one of the latest publications published on social networks by Raffaele Logiudice, a professional nurse who died after discovering that he was positive for Covid at 55 years old. He worked at the “Santissimo Salvatore” retirement home in Altarello, a facility that is currently facing the health emergency, like many others in the city, and where some employees are currently in quarantine. Logiudice died in hospital from complications caused by the virus and the news of his death has despaired of the village from which he was originally, Misilmeri, but also the entire Cape district.

Raffaele and the friends of the ‘Boss’

In the historic district of Palermo, Lo Giudice had cultivated great friendships, mainly linked to the brotherhood of the church of Maria Santissima. delle Grazie ai Pirriaturi, where he had become a true benchmark, as Father Pino says: “We will miss Raffaele a lot, because he was a person with a great spirit of sacrifice, who dedicated himself to others without buts. A man of great faith, he had a priest brother and we knew each other since we were little, because we were both born in Misilmeri. Through a friend he had come to know our brotherhood and had approached this reality that he deeply loved: he was the novice master, capable of involving many people and always ready to lend a hand ”.

‘He respects those who protect health’, but Covid has also hit him

To remember at 55 is also the councilor of Palermo, Ottavio Zacco: “It was on October 17 when Raffaele launched the call for prudence, prudence and respect for medical and health personnel. An appeal for the protection of life against Covid and this bastard virus has broken Raffaele’s life. Let’s try to live serenely but prudently, a hug to the family, the Capo community and the Misilmeri community ”.

Raffaele Logiudice, who died in Palermo

In these hours there are dozens of messages for the nurse, which speak of a person who is always willing to get closer to others: “Now I learn with deep bitterness of the death of my dear colleague, friend and colleague with whom I worked for a very short but intense period, an extraordinary person with a noble and generous heart, always extremely available.” To say it is Sandro D’Alessandro, who adds: “Our relationship of work and collaboration was characterized by a very deep mutual esteem and by an equally fraternal respect, with him I lose a dear friend and a brother rather than a colleague. Damn pandemic, damn Covid, of which, despite everything, some persist in denying the danger and sometimes the lethality. Raffaele was a few years younger than me and I don’t know if he had any previous illness ”.

The tragedy in Vittoria, red zone

In Sicily, this is the second nurse to die from Covid-19 in a few hours. Gianni Russo, who died in Vittoria, currently the ‘red zone’ in Ragusa, was the same age as Logiudice, 58. He worked in the intensive care and resuscitation ward of the “Guzzardi” hospital. To make it known a few hours ago, the ASP of Ragusa that “clings to the pain of the whole family, supporting him in this moment of great pain. Our farewell greeting is to a professional recognized by all for his commitment and dedication to his work ”.

Gianni Russo, Vittoria’s nurse

Russo got infected about two months ago, “It did not succeed and leaves an immense void not only in the ASP of Ragusa, but in the entire community of Vittoria that in this second wave is experiencing very dramatic moments”, concludes the Asp. To add to the pain, also the Order of Nursing Professions of Ragusa: “We express our condolences to the relatives of Gianni Russo, a nurse who died from COVID-19. An invitation to all his colleagues and those who knew him to look up at the sky for a moment and send him a “Hello Giannu ‘”, they conclude. In recent days, three other nurses tested positive at Cervello hospital, they work in the emergency room. Others were infected in the Civic, including one hospitalized in particularly serious condition.
