Austria will impose a second national lockdown to try to curb coronavirus infections, tightening the restrictions it had introduced earlier this month. The restrictions in force so far included the prohibition of leaving the house from eight in the afternoon to six in the morning, the closure to the public of restaurants, museums, theaters, parks and sports centers, and the obligation of hotels to house only to traveling professionals. of work. They were expected to remain in force until November 30, but the Austrian government assessed that they were no longer sufficient.
With the new blockade, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz explained, all non-essential commercial activities will remain closed, schools of all levels will cease to operate in person and will move to distance education, and all workers who can carry out their business in a remote will have to do it from home.
The new restrictions will remain in effect until December 6.
Health Minister Rudolf Anschober explained that the imposition of a new blockade is necessary to prevent the health service from collapsing due to the rapid increase in daily infections, which have almost doubled in the last two weeks. He said that the Austrians have done it once (in March, during the first wave) and that they can also do it a second time.
