Austria: full return of the blockade, record growth – World

24-hour curfew, kindergartens, schools and shops closed. Next Tuesday in Austria the total blockade returns, in the style of March, until December 6. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced it. Despite two weeks of ‘soft’ lockdown, essentially a nighttime curfew, Austria is currently the black jersey globally when it comes to the rate of spread of the coronavirus, with 831 new cases per million inhabitants in the last 7 days.

“Do not know anyone, each meeting is too much”, is the appeal launched by the Chancellor to the Austrians. People who live alone can indicate a “contact person”. “None of us want a new lockdown, but it’s the only way it works, as we saw in the spring,” he continued. “We want to save Christmas. The stricter the confinement, the better it will work and the sooner we can return to at least partially normal life,” concluded the Chancellor.
