Gianni Toscano is the administrator of a nursing home in Pescopagano (Potenza). On October 26, he participated in a meeting with his other colleagues to ask the Region for tampons and protective devices. The meeting lasts just over 20 minutes, all with masks and respect for the distance.
On Friday, October 30, he is contacted by one of the participants in the meeting who tells him that he is positive for the virus.
Gianni immediately undergoes an antigen smear: positive. The next day he undergoes a molecular test: positive.
He warns his family doctor and the mayor and quarantines himself. First 3-4 days joint pain and headache. Then nothing else. The symptoms disappear, I never had a fever, the saturation is always good.
After the tenth day, Gianni calls his doctor, who in turn asks the head of the Usca to subject his client to a new swab, as required by protocol. Gianni understands that there may be time and organization problems and always asks his doctor for the possibility of performing the test in a private laboratory, at his expense. The USCA doctor does not authorize it: “we have to wait.”
The latest provision of the Ministry of Health establishes that after ten days of isolation, with at least the last three without symptoms, the tampon must be remade.
“Today is 15 days – says the man – and still nothing. Prisoner in the house! My brother kicked out for not having him with me. My son is also positive on Calitri, but has already been negative since last Tuesday. And I am here waiting for the angels ”. All this happens in the town of Pescopagano.
Gianni wanted to tell this story to raise an issue that apparently involves many people: the poor application of protocols, the confusion in the organization of services in the area, and the precarious and harsh conditions that people live in isolation.
