And during the event, the Premier, who was very calm compared to the last weeks, gave very important news: the Rt index fell from 1.7% to 1.4%. An important factor, since it confirms the effectiveness of the partial measures adopted in the area. Especially in the Regions that were immediately declared a red zone, namely Lombardy, Sicily and Piedmont, the greater decrease in infections, thus contributing to lower the national index. This index, however, has also decreased in other regions, see Lazio, which are still in the yellow zone today. Now a reduction will be necessary for Campania and Tuscany, two of the Regions that have passed into the red zone since yesterday and for which, therefore, a mini-blockade with travel restrictions begins even within the Municipality.
Yet it is precisely these restrictions that could save Christmas. About that, the government plan will be formalized on December 4, 2020, when it will be known if the objective has been achieved or not.
What it takes to save Christmas: this is the government’s goal
Giuseppe Conte confirmed that we are close to reaching the peak of the second wave of COVID-19. Indeed, there is even the possibility that this has already arrived, with the contagion curve that is therefore about to start the decline phase.
However, to celebrate Christmas, the curve must go down again: if today we are at a Rt index of 1.4%, as of December 4 it should be 1%. This is the objective declared by the Government: to have an Rt index equal to 1 to be able to loosen most of the restrictions that currently exist, maintaining maximum attention so that what happened in the summer does not happen again, also because the experts They believe that once the second wave is over, a third wave will begin immediately.
As anticipated, the Government surrendered time until December 4 to decide: if by that date the forecasts regarding the advance of infections are to be respected, then we can celebrate Christmas and the New Year in the company of our families.
The government’s plan to save Christmas: this is how we can celebrate
The goal is to have all Italy in the yellow band next December 4. That way they will come back travel allowed outside the municipality and outside the region, to allow families to meet during the holidays.
There should be no major limitations for Christmas lunches and dinners, although in recent days the undersecretary of the Ministry of Health has spoken of celebrations only with close relatives.
Most likely there is only one recommendation, with theremoval of curfew – but only for the holidays – to allow you to move even for Christmas Eve dinner.
But the important thing is to reopen those shops, bars and restaurants (but only until 6:00 p.m., however, giving the possibility of working with take away food) today closed in the red zones, to give consumption boost. This is the real target of the government, with the prime minister planning to achieve it if the Rt index actually falls to 1% in December.
