The accumulated data of positivity registered since the beginning of the pandemic in the province of Foggia is 6,884. Currently, the positive cases reported by the Hygiene Service, related to the second phase of emergency, are close to 4,000. To date, 2,650 people have been negative, of which about 70% have recovered at home, without resorting to hospital treatment.

Meanwhile, the Ual institute in Foggia and the ‘San Tarcisio’ nursing home in Orta Nova have passed the emergency phase: they no longer have positive cases and can be declared Covid free.

The outbreak in the UAL broke out in mid-September: assumed by the ASL, most of the infected hosts were cured directly in the structure, without the need for hospitalization. The guests, monitored daily by the Hygiene Service, were followed by pulmonologists from the Respiratory System Diseases (MAR) facility of the San Severo hospital until they recovered.

The ‘San Tarcisio’ nursing home in Orta Nova had registered the first infections in mid-October. Again, for most of the guests it was not necessary to resort to hospital treatment.

Positive people were cared for directly in the structure: here, in addition to the precious intervention of the MAR, the ASL Foggia ensured the nursing support directly on site and remote monitoring, thanks to the use of devices connected in real time to the MAR and the Territorial Operations Center (COT).

The integrated assistance between specialists in pulmonology, the Hygiene and Public Health Service, the nurses and the internal personnel of the structures in charge, has allowed the resolution of the health emergency directly on site, without overloading the hospitals. “The result achieved – declares the general manager Vito Piazzolla – shows us that the system is holding up and that the local network is capable of responding to the home care needs of local communities, despite the exponential increase in infections”.

“The system – concludes Piazzolla – is withstanding the shock wave of the pandemic, but the evolution of the epidemiological situation and the critical problems that arise every day should make us raise the alert level again. And this concerns not only the health organs and structures in charge, but the entire community. Each of us is called to do our part and adopt those responsible behaviors that, for now, are the only way to counteract the spread of infections. Based on compliance with the hygiene and health standards that we all know well by now: use of a mask, frequent hand washing, social distancing. Basic rules of prevention, for the protection of people and the entire community “.
