Because the risk of Covid (or orange) of the red zone of Campania is not overcome

The Campania today November 10 remains in the yellow zone – moderate risk – Covid. Will it be the same tomorrow? Hard to say. The risk that the orange zone or even worse the red zone in Campania or in some parts (the areas with the most infections are the province of Naples and the province of Caserta) it does not dissipate at all. Technicians who on behalf of the Ministry of Health are on a “Neapolitan mission” to further understand the flow of epidemiological data and available beds have not yet written a line about the situation in Campania and therefore there is currently no verdict . He may not be there until the weekend, as the minister explained. Francesco Boccia (Regional affairs).

So what is Minister Speranza’s order tonight? It just confirms what has already been decided and clarified about the reclassification of some Italian regions (Abruzzo, Basilicata, Liguria, Tuscany, Umbria from yellow to orange, the autonomous red zone province of Bolzano instead). For the usual skeptics: just keep in mind that the measures will go into effect tomorrow, November 11. A mini block or an orange zone like that would have been impossible, abrupt ex, in a few hours. Let’s stay with the image from a few hours ago: Campania, the only case of 20 Italian regions, will still need some time and we are now 48 hours away.

Why so much waiting, why so much difficulty deciding? The numbers of the Region led by Vincenzo De Luca suggest a picture of a yellow risk area, the perception is of much higher risk: queues in front of hospitals, difficulties in accepting new Covid patients in hospitals, few ambulances available, even few oxygen cylinders available. The Region and the ASL say no, it is not. Or rather: it is a painting of difficulty and suffering, but not as it was painted (De Luca often speaks of “media aggression” against Campania). There are infections, but perhaps we have reached the peak beyond which a decline is finally expected?

It is like in a war: inspectors are sent to check the battlefield. And understand what the real situation is.

De Luca says, as in a Francesco De Gregori song, that there is nothing to understand: Campania is simply lemon-colored. This is what it says:

Campania’s position was already decided yesterday., given the full compliance of our data with what is established in the objective criteria established by the Ministry of Health. I requested a transparency operation, public and in all directions, to eliminate any gray areas, even fictitious ones. So there is nothing more to decide and wait.

That is not true, that is not the case: the words of the president of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità prove it, Silvio Brusaferro, which just in the morning had said: “We believe that the data from Campania are valid, but research is being carried out to capture aspects that could complete an analysis that is underway.” And today also the president of the Italian Federation of General Doctors (Fimmg) Silvestro Scotti denouncing a picture of grave suffering in the region, he requested the red zone:

Campania, even if it is the yellow zone, it’s a time bomb ready to explode. The problem with data is always how the numbers are read. Faced with the quantity and quality of work expressed by colleagues at the hospital, exceptional in this period, I only hear about available or activatable beds. A bed does not make sense in a care process, it must be linked to the human resources that make it really activatable.

This is precisely the point: Campania will also have hundreds of stretchers and spaces available, but if you do not have doctors and nurses, those spaces cannot be defined as beds.

For this are the inspectors of the Ministry of Health: if this were the case, a fact that already jumps to the eyes of many would be clear: medical care in Campania is no longer guaranteed for everyone, who suffers from Covid or other pathologies. And that is enough to declare an emergency.
