Zaia, lost the spirit of March, then the virus wins
«The spirit of the common challenge, the one that marked the emergency in March and April, has been lost. In front of the hospital we have, at least in Veneto. It is on the social level where the situation worries me, because that is where the real battle is taking place. For the governor of Veneto Luca Zaia, interviewed by Repubblica, “everything has changed with respect to the first wave of spring: Covid no longer seems a problem of the community, but of the individual who becomes infected, of the patient who ends up hospitalized. We have passed from us to me. And so – he warns – we run the risk of losing the war against the epidemic. «The gatherings of last weekend in our cities make us think. And they discourage, ”says Zaia.
“Citizens must be persuaded to stop the problem. And against the gatherings we must all work together, at the national level ”. Regarding the request for total closure made by the doctors, “the closure would be a defeat, the confirmation that we have not been able to respect the basic rules. But it would be a great tragedy from an economic point of view ”, emphasizes Zaia. “The health of the citizens comes first. But we can’t see people jumping off balconies in despair in the coming months. ” Regarding relations with the government, “the regions have always been supportive and collaborative. All the measures were approved unanimously, never our votes against. But it would have been much more ‘hygienic’, to use a term fitting these times, if each region had been involved prior to the zoning. If the government reclassified the Veneto, I would like to give my opinion ”, concludes Zaia.
