The Ministry of Health wants to see clearly. This morning the technicians of the department headed by Roberto Speranza went to Campania and it is here that they examined the epidemiological data throughout the day. These are the hours when images of collapsed hospitals arrive from Naples. Like Cotugno, where patients line up in cars waiting to be examined and the most seriously ill receive oxygen cylinders in the middle of the street. However, last week Covid infection data placed the region led by Vincenzo De Luca in the yellow zone. But now, based on what is being learned from sources that are closely following the issue, tomorrow there could be a transition to a higher risk area. Today from the Technical Scientific Committee and the Regional Cabinet some indications have arrived, but tomorrow will be the decisive day, totally dedicated to Campania.
Throughout the region, the alarm about the absence of oxygen cylinders grows, the Campania health system, amid the controversy over the available beds and the tilt care system, becomes a battlefield. So much so that Governor Vincenzo De Luca does not beat around the bush when he says that these days we are “witnessing intolerable events: an unprecedented media looting of the health of Campania, aimed at crediting the idea of dark maneuvers implemented to hide reality “. The mayor of Naples, Luigi De Magistris, is also on view. The two disagree.
The governor attacks the mayor for the scenes seen during the weekend, “examples of scandalous and irresponsible behavior in terms of institutional competencies and personal responsibilities. The images of the Naples seafront with shameful gatherings and in the total absence of any form of control are sensational and truly unsustainable. In the eyes of Italy these images would be enough to motivate a red zone beyond the hospital and health data ”.
However, the issue of health data is particularly sensitive. The Naples prosecutor, Giovanni Melillo, takes an official position to deny the press reports “according to which preliminary investigations have been initiated into the alleged falsification of the health data relevant to the management of the epidemiological emergency in Campania.” Certainly the technicians of the Ministry of Health are treating it directly. It is the special observation that is preparing to change color, perhaps to turn red even though the Region continues to reiterate that “the health system is holding up.” In-depth studies are also being carried out on Veneto.
Five other regions have already changed color. Minister Speranza listened to the governors one by one and then signed the ordinance, which will take effect on Wednesday and places five regions in the highest risk area. The regions of Abruzzo, Basilicata, Liguria, Tuscany and Umbria will pass through the orange zone. Compared to the measures already in force throughout Italy, there will be a ban on entering and leaving the region and movement between municipalities, except for reasons of work, study, health and necessity, and the closure of bars and restaurants throughout the day. On the other hand, schools will remain open and will be available for children, primary and secondary schools.
All five regions will stay in the orange zone for at least 15 days – in fact, if the data deteriorates further, it could turn red next week. Governors’ reactions to government decisions are different. If Vito Bardi does not rule out even more restrictive measures for the
Basilicata and appeals to the “sense of responsibility of the Lucans so that they have responsible attitudes”, and that of Tuscany Eugenio Giani speaks of the need to make “sacrifices
Now to leave as soon as possible “, the president of Liguria Giovanni Toti says he is” perplexed “since the figures” are more or less similar to those of last week “. Although he himself confirms that the hospitals in the region are” under great pressure. “
Doubts also of the governor of Umbria Donatella Tesei, according to whom the Region “has equipped and executed the safeguard plan”, also installing a field hospital. But she must also admit that “unfortunately the evolution and the extraordinary numbers of this second wave are causing many regions to change color very quickly.”
The even harsher confinement in the province of Bolzano, which the ministry has included in the red zone but, in fact, it had already been for several days: shops also closed, except for food and pharmacies, and distance education also for second and third grade. . Not only that: in Bolzano the mayor has further toughened the measures with an ordinance that allows motor activity no more than a kilometer from the house.
