“As planned, the progressive adaptation of the Covid hospital network in Puglia continues, bringing the total number of beds dedicated to Covid patients to 3,062. The network currently involves 28 public hospitals and 6 accredited private facilities. The adaptation of the network was defined in the light of a scenario that foresees the need for 2,600 hospitalizations, as indicated by the epidemiological area of Amess ”. This was stated by the director of the Department of Health Promotion, Vito Montanaro.
Based on the rapid evolution of the pandemic if the growth trend remains constant, the Amess epidemiology and healthcare intelligence area has identified the scenario of the need for beds required until November 30, 2020, which is equivalent to 2,600 hospitalized .
The Department of Health Promotion, in relation to the scenario described above, has defined a mostly public hospital network with the strategic guidelines of the ASL, also requesting the participation of accredited private structures that have declared their availability.
In total, the network consists, as of 11/30/2020, of 3,062 beds, of which 2,338 in public establishments (2014 for acute and 324 for post-acute) and 724 in accredited private establishments (649 for acute and 75 for post-acute). ), all fully dedicated to treating Covid patients.
Beds for “acute” refer to intensive care rooms, infectious diseases, pulmonology and the medical area; “post-acute” beds, on the other hand, refer to long-term care until the patient is discharged.
Specifically, there are 263 Covid intensive care beds, of which 219 in the public network and 44 in the accredited private network. An important part of the beds in the medical area is equipped for semi-intensive therapy.
“The plan of the bed – explains the director Montanaro – is constantly monitored and adapted to the care needs determined by the epidemiological trend of the pandemic. However, activities are already being carried out to find additional beds in case of worsening forecasts ”.
