After the entry into force of the new measures to contain the Coronavirus infection, already “next week” we could “see improvements”. Saying so is the president of the ISS, Silvio Brusaferro, who in an interview with The Republic explains that “if we respect the bans, we can reduce the spread of the virus and reopen business activities.”
Regarding the controversy with the Regions about the red areas, Brusaferro clarifies that the assessments made by the government are not report cards, “but technical tools. There is no politics in our control room. The management of an epidemic – he adds – “has a very important first line: to identify early the positives and their close contacts, and then to quarantine them – he explains – When, however, the contagion curve runs upwards, the tracking it becomes more difficult if not impossible. ”Calculating that the first Dpcm was issued in the second half of October,“ this week we will evaluate its effectiveness ”.
Regarding the parameters taken into consideration, what most got out of control was contact tracing: “We hope to control it again,” says Brusaferro, who warns: “The epidemic will not clear up until we have the vaccine, but we can have a new normal of coexistence with Covid. ”On the division of Italy into risk zones, Brusaferro does not believe that some regions have manipulated their data to avoid ending up in the range subject to more severe restrictions:“ There are territories more subject to the pressure of the epidemic, and this has led to more approximate estimates. ”
